“Why do women get hurt the most in a relationship?”

That isn’t a very safe assumption to make. Whether it’s a man or a woman, the person who invests a lot more in the relationship is bound to be the one to hurt the most. Men hurt too, you just wouldn’t know it because they aren’t as freely expressive as women are. Macho culture is partially to blame for that.
The more loving one in a relationship will always suffer. But they won’t feel the pain, not until they become aware that they are giving more than what they’re getting. At that point, they begin to realize the person they love doesn’t fully reciprocate their love.
It’s not a competition about which gender has it worse — in the end, these people are hurting all the same.
